Wish I would have bought one of these (LCI) when no one cared about them used. N ow they don’t exist and are all doomed to be on BaT.

Are you done with your turbo Yaris yet?

Not just yet, though I think I've only driven it a couple hundred miles since Thanksgiving.

A friend just bought an E46 manual wagon for $800.
I’m sure it doesn’t need any work.
On the other hand, for that price, it probably won’t go DOWN in value.

That’s a big premium over an automatic:

$4,700 asking price

Someday ... someday.

Well, if it has $3,000 in deferred maintenance (likely), then it’s technically worth negative $2,20 0 right out of the gate :D

haha, that’s EXACTLY the number I threw at him. I sold mine for ~$4k needing very little (nothing at that moment, but you know...) so I said “budget $3k and you’ll have a good car after that. Probably.” He’s chipping away at it, and I gave him lots of suggestions.

To be fair, that’s business logic, not consumer logic. A semi-working car is still worth something, and putting the work into it makes it have some functional value. Plus part-out value, which is usually pretty big if you have the time.
A long time ago, I theorized that hybrids with spent batteries (or now EVs) would be worth zero or less, but so far I haven’t seen that happen. But their values do drop a lot.
